Owiny Sigoma Band unleash ‘Power Punch’ on 8th April 2013 via Brownswood Recordings. Spinning on its London>Nairobi axis, the group continue to redefine universal, artistic and cultural exchange blending traditional Kenya nyatiti and Luo music with Western songwriting and production techniques. Power Punch, as its title suggests, is a confident, radiant, album packed with stirring, sometimes downright frisky jams.

Power Punch sees the Owiny Sigoma Band reverse the original dynamic as the Kenyan contingent (Joseph and Charles) departed Nairobi for recording sessions in North London. This environmental change is naturally reflected in the music and whilst Power Punch retains the stealthy, hypnotic groove of its predecessor, there is a greater intensity, weight and depth to the music: East African folkloric tales melding with London’s musical sundry.

Owiny Sigoma Band released their eponymously titled debut album in 2011, to critical acclaim. Highlights – it was the top 40 best selling world music albums in Germany that year, playlisted on 6 Music, spot played on Radio 1, Radio 2 plus international stations like KCRW in LA and Radio Nova in France. They have played live shows all over Europe including key festivals like WOMAD, Dour (Belgium) Worldwide (France), Silgo Jazz (Ireland), Roskilde (Denmark) and performed on the highly regarded Boiler Room internet radio show. The band also scored a “Best African Act” nomination at the 2011 MOBO Awards.

Expect the band to be touring live through 2013.
