21 year old Cape Town native Das Kapital broke into music consciousness with his remix of Bon Iver’s modern day classic “Skinny Love”.  Picked up by Hype Machine, his mix was #1 on the weekly play chart three times and has been favourited by over 20,000 people to date.

In the last few months he has remixed Drumsound and Bassline Smith ft Hadouken’s forthcoming single Daylight (New State), Rob Zombie’s Lords of Salem (Geffen USA) and reworked the iconic Nokia ringtone for Nokia in South Africa (available for download soon).

He has also remixed EMI South Africa’s own pop starlet Chiano Sky’s new single “Home Sweet Home”; finished his first EP (forthcoming on Do Work Recordings) which features Revero, Alex Mills and Louis Blaise; and seen his track with LV and Okmalumkoolkat Izibozl on Hyperdub released.

He has provided the track Rebirth to the South African indie movie Harlinn by Gregory Bakker; and is currently writing with Taiki and Nulight, Mercury nominated Ty Bulmer (New Young Pony Club) and remixing Zebra & Giraffe (Just Music SA).

He has turned his remix and production talents in the past to Laidback Luke and Sandro Silva for Mixmash / New State Music; The Only for MOS Australia;  HeavyFeet for Stamp! Beats; Hattie Murdoch for Portable Magic; Jiro Vega for GU Music / MOS; Kyle Andrews for Elephant Lady and Black Porcelain, Richard the Third, P.H. Fat and The Wild Eyes in South Africa.

He has also composed music for the trailer to Hollywood blockbuster movie 21 Jump St and has had music used in US TV shows and has been featured by MTV Iggy.

In addition Das Kapital is also an excellent DJ where his sets match his productions moulding intricate percussion, brooding melodies and dark bass. Refusing to be tied down by any one genre, but deeply connected to the mood of his music, he seeks to take people on an introspective journey while always drawing from his surroundings.  Das Kapital’s style is an ever-growing bank of tribal rhythms and heaving drums, twisted and chopped into something wholly his own.

He recently supported Diplo in South Africa (including at the huge Oppikoppi Festival) and will be performing with Koan Sound and has also appeared with Brodinski, Modeselektor, Clouds (Turbo/UK), Le Castle Vania (ULTRA/USA), LV, Kode 9 and Scratcha DVA (all HYPERDUB/UK), as well as having played multiple back-to-back sets with South African Hard-Electro doyen HAEZER.  He was a favourite at SONAR Cape Town (being interviewed by Spanish paper La Vanguardia) and the Cape Town Electronic Music Festival (CTEMF) this year too

For most of 2012 he presented a radio show on UCT in Cape Town for 3 hours every Monday night which included exclusive mixes and tracks from the great and good of Dance music each week and which resulted in the show trending on twitter throughout South Africa.  It recently transferred to The Assembly on a Wednesday night (http://theassembly.co.za/radio/) where the exclusive mixes and presentations continue.  He also provided an hour long mix to Kiss FM in the UK which has been repeated more than once.
